Band pictures have been rescheduled and will be taken on Thursday, February 9th, 2012!

Advanced and Intermediate Band: Please come to school dressed in concert tuxedos and black dresses along with black dress shoes and dress socks.

Beginning Band: Gentlemen need to come to school dressed in dress pants/khakis, a button up shirt, tie, dress shoes, and dress socks. Young ladies need to come to school dressed in a dress, stockings, and dress shoes. This is the same dress code that was explained for the Winter Festival.

THIS IS THE ONLY PERFORMANCE GRADE FOR THE 3RD NINE WEEKS!

These pictures will happen in the morning, so please make sure to bring a change of clothes to change into for the remainder of the school day.

As you may have heard from your child, band pictures were cancelled today. The students were notified yesterday during school, but I understand that some students did not attend school yesterday and were unaware of this change.

We will announce and post the new date for band pictures as soon as we know an exact date.

Congratulations to both Beginning Bands, Intermediate Band, and Advanced Band for an outstanding performance this past Saturday at the Winter Festival!! All groups did a fantastic job and your hard work has paid off!

Important Information!! Winter Festival Performances - Saturday, December 10th!!

Dear Parents,

The students have been doing an excellent job in class to prepare their first concert of the year! As our calendar stated that we passed out at the beginning of the year, the students will perform at the Winter Festival Concert on Saturday, December 10^th. Call times and performance times are listed below. Students are to arrive at Call Times dressed for performance when they exit the car. A student is not on time for a Call Time unless they are in their seat with their instrument and music.

All performances will be in the High School Auditorium.

Beginning Band - Call time: 8:40 on the High School Auditorium Stage

(1^st and 5^th periods) Performance time: 9:00 A.M.

Beginning Band - Call time: 9:40 on the High School Auditorium Stage

(3rd period) Performance time: 10:00 A.M.

Intermediate Band - Call time: 10:40 on the High School Auditorium Stage

Performance time: 11:00 A.M.

Advanced Band - Call time: 11:40 on the High School Auditorium Stage

Performance time: 12:00 P.M.

Dress for Beginning Band Performing Members:

Gentlemen: Young men will wear dress pants, dress shoes, a button down shirt that buttons the entire way (not just a three button golf shirt), and a tie. Any young man who is unable to tie a neck tie may bring it to the band room before school on Friday, December 9^th for assistance.

Young Ladies: Young ladies will wear dresses, hose, and dress shoes. A skirt and blouse may only be worn with approval of a director prior to Wednesday, December 7^th.

Dress for Intermediate and Advanced Band Members:

Gentlemen: Young men will wear tux shirts, pants, cummerbund, bow tie, and black shoes and black socks.

Young Ladies: Young ladies will wear their performance dresses with black shoes. Only one stud earring per ear and one necklace will be allowed as jewelry.

As stated in the Procedures and Expectations given out at the beginning of the school year, if a student is late to Call Time or not dressed properly upon arrival, this will result in a marked deduction of their performance grade.

We hope you will make plans to attend all of the performances on Saturday, December 10^th. The students have been doing a wonderful job in class to prepare this concert!

Cheesecake/Tumbler Fundraising Order Coming In 11/09/11!

The Cheesecake/Tumbler Order is coming in on Wednesday, November 9th!!!!

Students that have orders of TUMBLERS ONLY will be given their tumblers at school to take home with them.

Students that have ONE CHEESECAKE/REFRIGERATED ITEM will be given their item at school to take home with them.

ALL OTHER ORDERS MUST BE PICKED UP AFTER SCHOOL ON WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 9th FROM THE BAND ROOM FROM 3:30PM - 6:30PM!

There will not be a refrigerator available to keep the items chilled if orders are not picked up. The items come shipped to us frozen, so it is essential to pick up the orders that day.

Also, we will need parent volunteers to help separate the orders from 12:00PM - 3:30PM. If you are able to help, please contact the Dr. Walker or Mrs. Wambles. We truly appreciate your help!!

University of Alabama concession stand

We found out today there are about 4 more spots available for us to add workers for the University of Alabama concession stands for the LSU game on Saturday.

Of course, if we have more workers, we get more of the profit for the band program.

We will be meeting in the middle school band parking lot at 12:30 on Saturday to carpool to Tuscaloosa.

You do not need a food handler's card to work this event.

They provide a shirt and hat, all we need is a pair of khaki pants or shorts.

Please give me a call if you have suddenly found out you are available to work this event!

We also could use workers for the November 19th game. Let us know if you can work that game, as well.

Dear parents,

The Tuxedos and formal Black dresses are being ordered this week for Intermediate and Advanced Band members.

The cost is $49 and is due November 16^th. If your family cannot meet November 16^th due to financial hardship, please make contact with me so we can make arrangements. This is required wear for the performances. The students will get at least 5 uses of the concert attire this year.

Those who had one last year were instructed last week to see if their tuxes and dresses still fit and order what they needed by this week.

As always, the money is due to the main office with exactly what it is intended written on the "for" line of the check. Please make checks out to CCMS Band.

The Advanced and Intermediate Bands did a wonderful job last Thursday night at the ball game.

What they did was so very difficult, but they did it well!!!

Let's do it again this Thursday! Same times.

The Band Boosters are going to feed the band a hotdog meal for free this Thursday!!

We will need parent help again this Thursday!! You guys were wonderful this past week! We need it again!

Help needed with performance this Thursday night

We are in need of a few parents to help supervise students and move equipment on Thursday night, Oct. 6 and Oct. 13.

We need help before and after we play to supervise and help kids get tubas, baritones, tenor saxes, and percussion from the truck to the visitor's stands where we perform. Then, we will need help getting the equipment back to the truck. We then need folks to meet us at the band room to get it from the truck into the band room.

I have already heard from a couple of parents.

Stadium Procedures for Intermediate and Advanced Band

Be a good representative of our band at all times!! Our band is a group that depends on each other to play well and to act with decorum and dignity. No matter how large the band gets, each person is important in upholding the standards of the group.

Never play in public unless we are performing together. Practice is done at home.

NO GUM!! NO FOOD OR DRINK IN THE BAND SECTION!!!!

No one is to sit in the band section except band members and those Dr. Walker, Mrs. Wambles, or Mr. Williams give permission.

Be early!! Do not cut it so close as to have to run to your place. Students are to be seated in the stadium with your music and instrument ready to perform at 5:20 P.M.

Stay seated in your assigned seat. You may stand to cheer a good play, then return to your seat. We stand to cheer with the cheerleaders as a band. Our job at the game is to play our instruments. When the team scores, be prepared to play – cheer after.

Use the restroom before call time. You can use the restroom again after we are dismissed.

Always be complimentary of the other bands. Say “Thank you” if others compliment you and be pleasant and ignore others if they are derogatory.

If there is a hurt player on the field for either team: be seated and quiet, clap when he gets up.

Cases should be left in the stadium section beside the band.

Dress is band shirt (tucked in!), blue jeans, and standard brown or black belt with nondescript buckle.

Enjoy the game, but when a director steps to the rail to announce a song, be silent, attentive, and quick.

Never distract the football players. We are both there to do a job for our school. FOCUS!

The students will perform for the latter portion of the seventh grade game and the beginning portion of the eighth grade game. The students will be dismissed at halftime of the eighth grade game or 7:30 P.M., whichever comes first. The students are dismissed from our care at this time. The students may leave at this time, or may stay for the remainder of the game. Please make a plan now with your young person as to where and when you will pick them up. Remember: no one is to play on their own.

Intermediate and Advanced Band football performances

Dear Parents,

Our first performance at the football stadium is Thursday, October 6^th.

Our two required football game performances as listed on the band calendar given at the beginning of the year will be:

Thursday, October 6 Warm-up 5:30 P.M. Performance ends 7:30 P.M.

Thursday, October 13 Warm-up 5:30 P.M. Performance ends 7:30 P.M.

Warm-up will be in the stands at the stadium. Dismissal will be from the same location at half-time of the eighth grade game or the time listed above, whichever comes first. No one will meet or be at the Middle School. Students must take their instruments home from school that afternoon and bring them to the stadium.

The Band Boosters will have a $3 combo meal available for the band students at the October 6^th game. The combo will include a hotdog, chips, a can drink, and maybe a rice crispie treat. Parents, if you are not already, please strongly consider becoming a member of Band Boosters – they do so much for our kids!!

The cheesecake/cookie dough/school mug sale!!

Our biggest band fund raiser of the year begins today!!!!

Please help us out by taking the brochure to work and church. Talk to grandma and Aunt Tessie about it.

This sale generates our operating expenses for the year.

We do a few other small fund raisers, but this one is the main supporter of our in-school band account.

We will have a band booster fund raiser beginning next week, as well, so please don't feel as if we are fund raising you too much! We try to only do things that bring good products and good value to your family for your support of the band. The cheesecakes can be frozen to use at Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Years. The mugs are microwave and dishwasher safe...and almost indestructible!

After the pancake breakfast and the cheesecake sale, we will not have a fund raiser for a long time.

Next weeks booster fund raiser is $5 for a pancake breakfast at Applebees...but more about that later.

As for now: CHEESECAKES/COOKIE DOUGH/COLLEGE MUGS.........HURRAY!!!!

Tonight was my first night this season in the concession stand! What a GREAT night!!!! We worked hard and had a ton of fun!

We had a ton of WONDERFUL parents helping! Even some folks who were friends of parents helping.

The officers were all there working hard!

Thank so very much to everyone!!!

Due to the good crowd, we had a very good night earning money for our kids in the band!!

See you all on Monday night at the band room. Food handler's at 6 PM (if you need it) and booster meeting at 7 PM.

September Band Booster Meeting

The Sept. 12 foodhandlers meeting has been moved to the middle school band room for this reason. Foodhandlers will take place at 6:00 PM.

Instrument meeting for beginners

The instrument meeting last night for the beginners went very well. It was a pleasure to meet the parents of these wonderful students!

The next, and final, meeting will take place on Thursday night, August 25th, at 6 PM in the band room.

August Band Booster Meeting and Food Handler Training

The next Clay-Chalkville Band Booster meeting is this Monday, August 8th in the High School band room at 7:00pm.

There will also be a Health Department Food Handler Training prior to the meeting at 6:00pm in the High School band room. Parents must attend one training session in order to work in the concession stands this football season. The food handler certification needs to be renewed every two years, so if you attended a session last year, you do not have to be recertified this year.

The other Food Handler Training Sessions will be held on the following dates:
*Tuesday, August 30th - Time: TBA in Middle School Band Room
*Monday, September 12th - Time: 6PM in High School Band Room
